FAQ - Loupes

All Q-Optics loupes are custom measured and built to each individual user, so several measurements are taken by a representative to assure we precisely tune to your particular features and working distance, no matter which telescope style you choose. Each set of loupes is made unique to you, so there are no standard angles, working distances, pupillary distances, or drill heights.

That depends on your own personal preference. We find first-time loupe users prefer a 2.5x - 3.0x magnification. As your field size will decrease as you increase magnification, some users find a nice balance by jumping in to a 3.5x Prismatic telescope, rather than a Galilean style - which will offer your an expanded field of view alongside your increased magnification.

We've got you covered! During your consultation with our sales rep, please inform us that you will require a prescription for your loupes. If you have your prescription available at the time of your fitting, we will be happy to take a copy to include with your order - otherwise we can get that information from you later before your loupes are built. Depending on the type of frame style you choose, you will have a options that suit your work style.

Our Eclipse frame has a removable prescription insert that allows flexibility between wearing contact lenses or your glasses prescription. Standard use allows you to easily slide in your glasses prescription with the quick-disconnect prescription insert that integrates your eyeglasses prescription. On days you wish to wear contact lenses, you can simply slide out the prescription insert and continue use of your loupes with the integrated nosepads on your Eclipse frame.

If you've chosen a flat front frame style, such as our Panto or Classic frame, your eyeglasses prescription will be integrated directly into the frame carrier lenses themselves.

Remove any electronics (headlight) before cleaning your loupes.

Then, rinse down your loupes using a mild soap (such as Dawn dish soap) and room temperature water. You may additionally disinfect your loupes using CaviWipes or CaviCide by applying with your microfiber cloth.

Remove any spots or streaks by wiping your loupes with the included microfiber cloth and lens cleaner spray. Allow to dry thoroughly.

Only use a microfiber or cotton cloth to wipe your loupes, no paper products such as paper towels.

Never fully submerge your loupes in water.

Never place your loupes in an ultrasonic cleaner.

We suggest that you not try to refit the telescope on your own by means of superglue or other adhesive. This may end up defacing your loupes and make repairs more difficult. As your telescopes are calibrated to your custom measurements, you will also find that your magnified view will be affected. Please contact our support team immediately, so we can get a proper repair underway for you.

FAQ - Lights

Yes! Please specify your loupe manufacturer at the time of placing your headlight order so we can incorporate the appropriate frame adapter for your headlight system build. If you are uncertain, we will likely ask for a photograph so we can accommodate your particular frame.

Your headlight is NOT WATERPROOF!

Please adhere to proper maintenance to avoid damage of your electronics.

Basic cleaning may be done with a clean, dry microfiber cloth or by spraying a cloth lightly with the Q-Optics optical lens cleaner or CaviWipe - taking care to squeeze out any excess liquid prior to wiping down your headlight. Do not allow any fluid to enter into open electrical areas of your headlight or battery.

You will never be required to remove any screws from your loupes frame in order to remove your headlight, please do not do so. If you are uncertain about how it should be removed, please consult your headlight manual, watch our headlight system instructional video, or contact customer support for precise directions on cleaning and maintaining your headlight system.

Charge time will depend on your current battery model. Please refer to your headlight instructions for charging specifications, but generally you can see your approximate charge time per battery below:

  • RADBL26 - 6.5 hours
  • RADBL25 - 4 hours
  • RADBLC1 (Cordless) - 1.5 hours

Our wired headlight batteries are designed to run, nominally, 1000 cycles at highest intensity and cordless batteries are designed to run, nominally, 500 cycles in their lifetime. Upon reaching their "estimated life" they will begin to run at a slightly diminished capacity.

Working distance will ultimately determine the size of your lighted surface. For instance, the spotlight size will be 4" at an 18" working distance. The spot size will decrease at a closer distance, and increase at a further distance.
